On October 11 2016 at 19:45 in the regular game of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers at the LFF Stadium Lithuania host Malta.
As Lithuania are not among the strongest football national teams of the continent, they missed the previous Euro 2016. After 10 games played in the qualification they gained 10 points and took the 5th position in the standings with 7:18 goal difference which didn’t let them get their ticket to France. In the current World Cup 2018 qualification Lithuania show mediocre results and nobody thinks they will make it to the next stage. Malta, in their turn, usually appear to become the outsiders of any competition they take part in. the previous Euros qualification was not an exception. After 10 games played they only drew twice and lost the rest of the games. Such a result let them gain two points and take the last place in the standings of their group. In the current World Cup qualification Malta show horrible results but they are natural for them. In the first round they lost to Scotland 1:5 and after that lost again to another British team England 2:0.
The teams met twice and both of the games were friendly ones. In 2006 Lithuania won 1:4 and last year Malta celebrated the victory 2:0. Now Lithuania look much better and are the favorites of the forthcoming game. Moreover, they Lithuania are going to play at home and get all of the support from their fans.
