Russian champions travel to Leverkusen for the Champions League clash with German bronze medalists.
Bayer Leverkusen take on the visitors CSKA in the round 1 match of the Champions League group stage. The match will be played at BayArena on Wednesday, September 14th.
Bayer Leverkusen played only three matches this season so far, taking two wins over Hauenstein, 2-1, Hamburger, 3-1, and losing to Borussia Monchengladbach, 1-2. The club improved the first team this summer, signing up Volland and two Austrians, Baumgartlinger and Dragovic. Of course, the hosts of the fixture are set to advance for the knockout stage of the competition. Bayer are undefeated at home for seven matches since the beginning of March and set to extend this streak.
The season in Russian Premier League is on the rise and CSKA show nice results in league matches so far. The visiting side is on the second place with 14 points gained in six matches. Moreover, the team has conceded only one goal so far. Slutsky’s team show nice football in domestic league but it might not be enough for successful performance in Champions League. CSKA are undefeated in their last nine matches on the road, taking six wins and three draws. However, all nine were played in domestic competitions.
It will be the first ever head-to=head between the team. Of course, we should expect the hosts to prevail in the match and be closer to victory but the game itself should be eventful as CSKA show solid defensive football and won’t force things in this away clash.
Prediction for the match: Under 3.0 goals.
